From the Editor
The warfighters and armed services need the EMSO community to "think big." This week at AOC 2025, we've taken a good look at the EMS enterprise through a DOTMLPF-P lens. We've heard from keynoters that DOD leaders need to hear from us and want to know what we think about the threats that are keeping them up at night. We need to step up and give them the information and answers they need to hear. We also heard the beginnings of an important discussion about establishing an armed service dedicated to EMSO – an EMS Force. There are many questions about creating an EMS Force that we need to ask ourselves. The most basic question is: What would an EMS Force do for the warfighter that the current approach doesn't do as well? And then we need to find good answers to this questions. If the answers indicate that an EMS Force is the best solution for meeting the warfighters' needs, then we need to pursue this. As a community, we asked back in 2010 if the EMS should be recognized as a major warfighting domain – an EMS domain. Regardless of the official outcome, asking the question and pursuing the answer made us think differently about EMSO. I think the same will be true of the EMS Force. We will evolve our thinking, which is what the warfighter needs from us. – John Knowles, JED Editor-in-Chief

Symposium Happenings
The AOC symposium is tackling some of the biggest issues in the EMSO community. Come early, grab a cup of coffee, and settle in for some valuable perspectives. The keynote session kicks off at 8:30 AM.
Today, Lieutenant General Paul Stanton (US Army), Cyber Defense Command Commander and Director, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), will deliver the final keynote of the week. After graduating from West Point in 1995, he spent the next 20 years in the infantry, including company commander in the 1-502nd Infantry, 101st Airborne Division, in Operation Iraqi Freedom. After earning a PhD in Computer Science, he joined the Army's growing cyber operations corps in 2015, eventually becoming commander of the US Army Cyber Center of Excellence in 2021. He assumed his current role in October 2024, which includes responsibility for supporting and shaping the DOD's EMS policy. As a keynoter, General Stanton's infantry experience, alongside his knowledge of cyber and spectrum policy, makes him a very interesting speaker. We will also honor AOC’s 2025 Military Award recipients whose contributions continue to shape the future of electronic warfare. More details, including descriptions of all symposium spotlight and breakout sessions, program manager briefings and technical briefings are available in the full agenda.
Each year, AOC recognizes five young professionals as the year’s Future 5 – individuals who actively innovate and strive for excellence as they support their respective organizations and build their EMSO careers. In each issue of the Show Daily, we will spotlight one of this year's Future 5. All Future 5 will be honored on the Main Stage during the Keynote Session today. Today, we recognize Kane Louderback of Information Systems Laboratories. "My ultimate career goal is to make increasingly meaningful contributions to the EMSO and EW communities by improving accuracy and reducing error in our systems, algorithms, and simulations. In this field even minor errors, whether that be in the software, hardware, human-in-the-loop, or training data behind artificially intelligent algorithms and systems can lead to mission failure or put lives at risk. Our warfighters depend on the precision of our tools, and I believe it is our responsibility to provide not just abundant data/training, but the right data/training materials for the mission scenario to ensure realistic and reliable training and preparation for operational success. Throughout my career, I have focused on delivering high-fidelity modeling and simulation capabilities to support this mission. From enhancing algorithms for pulse de-interleaving using novel approaches, to leading agile teams delivering SAR solutions, to supporting open-air range testing, each step has further solidified my commitment to excellence in EMS operations. Looking ahead, my aspiration is to continuously grow into the best version of myself both as a leader and technical contributor by surrounding myself with strong mentors and collaborative teams, pursuing higher education, and building a diverse range of experiences across technical domains and mission contexts. By doing so, I aim to drive innovation that ensures our warfighters are equipped, trained, and supported by the most accurate and advanced EW/EMS systems available." On behalf of AOC, the AOC Foundation, and HeroBox, we extend a huge thank you to everyone who stopped by Hero HQ on Tuesday and Wednesday to support the warfighters who implement the electromagnetic warfare and spectrum operations technologies we advance as a community. We were able to assemble 400 care packages that will be shipped directly to actively deployed warfighters from the US Army, Navy, and National Guard. These items, along with the words of encouragement handwritten by so many of our AOC members and supporters, will mean a lot during the upcoming holiday season. United States Rep. Don Bacon (NE-2), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Cyber, IT and Innovation, House Armed Services Committee, provided an insightful perspective in his keynote on Wednesday morning at AOC 2025. The Main Stage hall was packed with attendees, as the former EW officer gave his assessment about the health of EMSO today. His keynote began with a basic question: "So, what is our mission?" he asked. "I think our mission is very clear. We want to ensure that we dominate the electronic magnetic spectrum for our country and our allies – that we dominate it. We can use our radars; we can use our nav aids and our communications; and we want to prevent our adversaries from using that same spectrum. I know this is, this is like '101' for all of us here, but not everybody gets it. Not everybody gets that in Congress. I'm not so sure our Pentagon gets it." Inside the Convention
The inaugural Empowering Women in Electromagnetic Warfare (EW in EW) Breakfast was a sold-out success! The breakfast brought together remarkable female leaders from the EW community for candid, powerful conversations and connections. EW in EW creates and fosters a community of women in electronic warfare to promote excellence, collaboration, personal, and professional growth through generational networking, support, and mentorship.
