Fears the Australian gold sector's boom conditions will be disrupted by drought have been eased, with miners saying there is no longer a risk of production being curtailed in the coming year thanks to the breaking of the drought. Less than four months after it warned its flagship Cadia mine may have to reduce production before Christmas because of water shortages, Newcrest Mining said on Wednesday the crisis had been abated.

Australia’s Danakali (ASX, LON:DNK) said on Thursday it was is in the final stages of completing the second phase of development of its world-class Colluli potash project in Eritrea, Africa. The front-end engineering design (FEED), expected to be finished in June, will take the company a step closer to the construction phase and then onto production in 2022, Danakali said.

Total construction starts dropped 25 percent from March to April to a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of $572.2 billion, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. The decline is the result of the coronavirus pandemic and the economic recession that hit the construction sector.

The deadline to submit a 200-400 word abstract for the 47th Annual Conference on Explosives & Blasting Technique is next Friday, May 29.

Papers addressing all explosives and blasting related topics will be considered. Accepted papers will be scheduled for one of the technical sessions or the Blasters Forum, a multimedia poster event with one-on-one interaction between the author and audience.

What’s new this Year
In previous years, students had separate calls for papers and separate deadlines. To streamline the submission process, this will be the only call for papers this year for both industry professionals and students.

COVID-19 and Deadlines
Because of COVID-19, deadlines throughout the entire paper submission process have already been extended. Check the abstract submission site for all the details. If you would like to submit an abstract, but feel you might not be able to meet the paper deadlines because of a project put on temporary hold, please email us at isee@isee.org.
