New for 2018: All ISEE members now have free access to the online research database OneMine. It’s home to more than 124,000 articles, technical papers, books in the explosives, mining, minerals and tunneling industries. Along with ISEE technical papers, members now have free access to papers from SME, NIOSH, AusIMM, CIM, SAIMM, TMS, IMPC, DFI and IIMP. To access OneMine, ISEE members need to log in to the ISEE website first. Once in the members section, click on Research Papers and Proceedings. From there, members have two options to choose from. ISEE Explosives Reference Database Online contains only ISEE related papers and articles leading up to 2000. OneMine contains ISEE documents from 2001-2017 as well as all the 124,000 documents from other organizations. Registration is now open for the International Society of Explosives Engineers' 45th Annual Conference on Explosives and Blasting Technique. It will be held Jan. 27 - 30, 2019, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tenn. As many as 1,600 blasters, manufacturers, government officials and suppliers will gather from all over the world to gain new insights and form new business alliances. Participation will be strong as the largest conference of its kind in the explosives industry returns to Music City. The 2019 program includes a dynamic education program featuring technical sessions, poster session and workshops combined with more than 130 exhibits on the latest technology. In addition to the full conference, the Blasters Weekend Package, commencing on Saturday, Jan. 26, will include the popular Blasters Training Seminar, the Blasters R Us Video Roundup, a regulatory panel discussion and more. In addition, educational programs, books, DVDs and ISEE apparel will be sold at the ISEE bookstore, including the 18th Edition ISEE Blasters’ Handbook (print and digital) and the 45th Annual Conference Proceedings, featuring all the technical papers from leading industry experts.

Calling all students looking to make a mark in the explosives industry! The ISEE Conference Program Committee is pleased to announce the Call for Student Papers to be presented at the 45th Annual Conference on Explosives & Blasting Technique, the largest gathering of its kind involving field blasters, manufacturers of explosives related products, educators and researchers, to be held Jan. 27 – 30, 2019, Nashville, Tenn. This is an excellent opportunity for students to network with senior researchers and professionals from academia and the industry. Ideas should be submitted in a 200-400 word abstract highlighting the major points of the proposed 8-10 page paper and be approved by the student's faculty adviser.

The SEE Education Foundation will be holding its silent auction to support students pursuing degrees in explosives-related fields. Since the Foundation’s inception, over 500 scholarships valued at more than $500,000 have been awarded. Silent auction packages will be available for viewing and bidding for the duration of the annual conference and will conclude Jan. 29, 2019, during the closing reception. Seabridge Gold recently announced it has commenced drilling the Quartz Rise high-grade gold target on its 100%-owned Iskut Project in northwestern British Columbia. Last year’s drill program, the first ever at Quartz Rise, confirmed the presence of a gold-bearing intermediate sulfidation epithermal system beneath the Quartz Rise lithocap. This was our target concept. The drilling intercepted several narrow, discontinuous intervals of high-grade gold. A subsequent 3D induced polarization (IP) geophysical survey together with detailed geological mapping and sampling of available rock faces indicate that the 2017 drilling may not have been in the correct orientation. New results from cliff face sampling show exceptional gold results that appear to correspond with a favorable IP chargeability anomaly under Quartz Rise.

Far too many miners have been injured or killed in accidents involving powered haulage. The category, which covers the haulage of materials and personnel, accounted for half of the 28 US mining fatalities in 2017. MSHA has made the prevention of powered haulage accidents a priority for 2018 and beyond, with an initial focus on three areas: large vehicles striking smaller ones; seat belt usage; and conveyor belt safety.

Australia’s Lake Resources NL (ASX: LKE) and America’s Lilac Solutions recently announced that they had established a partnership with the idea of developing the Kachi Lithium Brine Project in Argentina. Lake owns the project, which is located in the northwestern Catamarca province, some 100 kilometres south of FMC's Hombre Muerto lithium brine operation. Back in 2017, Kachi received results of over 200 mg/L lithium, recorded from near-surface auger brine sampling. The results maxed out at 204 mg/L lithium. Meanwhile, Lilac is the company in charge of providing its ion exchange technology to produce lithium at the 54,000-hectare site.
