ILTA Safety Survey Program Award Winners Announced

ILTA’s 2021 Safety Survey and Awards Program has come to a close! Every year, ILTA terminal member companies can voluntarily submit their OSHA-required safety information to compare against their industry colleagues anonymously. ILTA uses this data to produce an annual safety report, benchmarking the terminal industry’s overall safety trends against prior years. This year, ILTA partnered with RCP Inc., a professional engineering consulting company, to help collect and interpret the submitted information from the 49 participating companies.

Several awards are assigned based on a company’s safety performance, including the Safety Excellence Award, which is given to companies that maintain an OSHA Total Recordable Incidence Rate of less than 0.75.  In addition, the Safety Improvement Award is given to companies that show a trend-line improvement for the current year and two of the preceding three years; demonstrate an improvement in the average employee TRIR over the prior year; and report a TRIR that is 40% lower than the average of the three prior years

ILTA also awards two Platinum Safety Awards, one for a large company defined as having 200 or more full-time employees, and one for a small company with fewer than 200 full-time employees. To qualify for the Platinum Safety Award, companies must have a TRIR rate of less than 0.5 in the last calendar year, complete a lengthy application packet detailing their safety programs and performance and submit a Terminal Operating Practices Symposium presentation application. All applications are anonymously judged by a panel of industry safety experts from companies of all sizes who ultimately decide the winners.
