ILTA To Host Membership Update on TWIC Reader Rule Implementation Guidelines

All terminal member company representatives are invited to participate in a one-hour video call on December 10 at 2:00 p.m. ET on ILTA’s recent discussions with the Coast Guard on implementation of biometric requirements for TWIC readers. Over the past four months, ILTA has met with numerous Coast Guard officials along the full chain of command responsible for implementing the new rule. Outreach has included presentations at the field unit level, to the Eighth District Commander and staff, and to Coast Guard Port and Facility Compliance Office and Assistant Commandant for Prevention Policy at headquarters. ILTA’s outreach centers on addressing conflicting interpretation of the new rule within the Coast Guard and correcting misunderstandings about options for reducing compliance burdens. ILTA will brief participating members on the state of play of its work to educate the Coast Guard. Members will also have an opportunity to discuss their individual concerns or questions regarding their own facilities. ILTA will send additional information to members in the coming weeks.
