ILTA to Host EHS&S, Operations Council Meetings, TOPS in September

Beginning on Tuesday, September 22, ILTA will host its fall committee meetings and its third annual Terminal Operating Practices Symposium via the Zoom virtual meeting platform.

The EHS&S meeting kicks off on the morning of September 22 with an update of ILTA’s plans for its November Conference and Trade Show and a government affairs update. The committee will move into environmental topics later that morning, including a presentation on FLIR Systems’ new emissions quantification module. That afternoon, the meeting will continue with health and safety topics including a presentation from the American Waterways Operators on their recently completed safe barge access and egress white paper.

On Wednesday morning, committee members will hear presentations from Niall Ramsden with LASTFire on its work on testing PFAS-based and alternative firefighting foams and Samuel Ciszuk with ELS Analysis on the impact of International climate regulations on the energy sector. The EHS&S meeting wraps up on Wednesday afternoon with the security subcommittee hearing from John Felker, CISA Assistant Director of Integrated Operations, about cyber threats and TSA’s Pipeline Security Program Manager Ray Reese, who will talk about pipeline security. Steve Roberts with the Chemical Security Group and ILTA’s advisor RADM Roy Nash (USCG Ret.) will explain to members why it is important for the terminal industry to prepare to comply with the TWIC Reader Rule which goes into effect in May 2023.

You must register for this meeting on ILTA’s website at www.ilta.org/Events-Training/2020-Fall-Committee-Meetings, but attendance is free. The meeting is open to all terminal members.

The third annual TOPS meeting starts on Thursday, September 24 at 9 a.m. ET and includes several presentations on lessons learned from incidents, near misses and daily operations. We have presentations that address VRUs, valve line-ups, fall safety, marine loading, management of microbial contamination, floating roofs, metering, pump seal failure, hydrogen sulfide exposure, emergency response and trailer drains. There are nine companies making 16 presentations. Because of the number of high-quality presentations, we are extending the symposium to Friday, September 25 from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. Registration is required for this event www.ilta.org/Events-Training/2020-Fall-Committee-Meetings, which is open only to terminal operating company employees. Registrants will be sent connection details prior to the event.

Finally, on Friday, September 25, ILTA’s Operations Council will meet from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. ET. The council will review presentations from the TOPS and decide if there is any follow-up that requires an industry response. The council will also spend time to further develop  a framework for terminal operations management systems. ILTA’s involvement with the Fuels Institute on diesel fuel quality will be discussed; sampling and testing from retail locations is being complete in September. Other potential topics include operator training and further work with the National Tank Truck Carriers on tanker safety.
