As I write this article I am preparing for my family's annual pilgrimage to Gulf Shores/Orange Beach, Alabama. For two glorious weeks I go for walks on the beach, spend time with my family and participate in recreation (planned by others) and enjoy the beautiful state park on the Gulf of Mexico. It's time I don't take for granted.

Allies, not Adversaries: Building Positive Partnerships with Parents. Parents can be seen at times as obstacles to teachers' ability to help children meet goals in the program. This workshop presents strategies that create positive partnerships between parents and teachers/program leaders that lead to increased success for children. Recognizing the importance of winning parents' trust and establishing good communication patterns starting at intake are key to this process.

Megan Kuhlenschmidt has been promoted to Director of Recreation at the Champaign Park District. Kuhlenschmidt received a Doctorate in Leisure & Health from the University of Illinois and has been with the Champaign Park District for two  years.

Kevin Crump
has been promoted to Director of Planning, Design and Construction at the Champaign Park District. Crump graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s in Leisure Services and has been with the Champaign Park District for 21 years.

Tammy Hoggatt
has been promoted to Director of Human Resources at the Champaign Park District. Hoggatt earned Senior Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resources Certification Institute and has been with the Champaign Park District for five years.

Jameel Jones has been promoted to Director of Cultural Arts at the Champaign Park District. Jones graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor’s in Recreation, Sport & Tourism and has been with the Champaign Park District for 14 years.
