The Metropolitan Mayors Caucus offers the Public Sector Energy Efficiency Program that provides funding and technical assistance to help local governments update and retrofit public facilities to improve energy efficiency and save money. Grants typically range from $2,000 to $50,000 and are dependent on the expected electricity and natural gas energy savings. Payback period for investment is usually between 1 and 5 years. Lighting upgrades, HVAC retrofits, boiler tune-ups, and other controls in public office buildings, garages, water and waste water treatment plants, community centers, libraries, schools and more are eligible.
