CPSC's first-of-its-kind national pool safely campaign – a public education effort to reduce childhood drowning and entrapments in and around pools and spas -- is joining with national organizations such as the American Red Cross, YMCA of the USA, Safe Kids USA, National Drowning Prevention Alliance, Home Safety Council, World Waterpark Association and Abbey's Hope to educate parents and children about simple pool and spa safety steps that could save a life. Because drowning is the leading cause of death for children under 5, the CPSC is conducting several public media events and activities throughout the summer to highlight the campaign and help educate the public.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, 205,000 children are treated annually for playground accidents, with approximately 15 resulting in death. Of these, 70 percent occurred at public parks and schoolyards. Does your equipment measure up? How many preventable injuries occurred in your parks? The class will be offered Oct. 19-21, location TBD.

The event is open to seniors of all ability levels, and hosts more than 30 events including golf, tennis, bowling, swimming, biking, track and field, horseshoes, bocce, volleyball and more.
