Are Your Pools Open?

Are your pools open? Did you know IPRA recently rolled out an online community to connect park and recreation professionals with questions about aquatics? To participate, click here! We also have a new online community for executive directors and/or municipal department directors. Sign on at the link above.  We will be rolling out on line communities for each of our seven sections in the coming weeks.  This is all a part of IPRA’s new "IPRAConnect" online communities.

This summer we are hosting a third option for Certified Playground Safety Instructor course and exam. Usually we do a spring and fall course, but we have been maxing out our classes and added a third option. If you have been unable to get into one of our other courses, this is a great opportunity for you!

I am thrilled to share that IPRA and Southern Illinois Park and Recreation Association (SIPRA) will be partnering on ProConnect South, a regional version of IPRA’s successful ProConnect mentoring program. This program will begin this fall. Applications will be available soon. For those who are interested in ProConnect (north), we will be opening applications up in July. The Board of Regents has been working hard to prepare for the new program and has some exciting things in store for this year’s class of mentors and mentees.

Coming up is our annual Six County Senior Games from July 8 through 23rd. Events will be held this year in Addison, Carpentersville, Des Plaines, Elk Grove, Hainesville, Highland Park, Hoffman Estates, Lisle, Mt. Prospect, Niles, Norridge, Park Ridge, and Schaumburg. For more information or to volunteer, see Senior Games in the education calendar on our website.

Speaking of volunteering, Park District and Conservation Day at the Illinois State Fair is coming up in Springfield on Saturday, August 22. We always need volunteers to help us distribute items to the public and help educate them about the value of parks, recreation, and conservation. For more information or to volunteer, follow the links off our homepage.

As previously noted, we will not be hosting an IPRA social at NPRA this fall due to their schedule with the additional social to celebrate their 50th anniversary. We will, however, be distributing IPRA polo shirts to those who register for NRPA so that our IPRA delegation has a presence at the national conference. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

It is a busy time for park and recreation professionals. I hope you have a fantastic summer and the weather cooperates with all your programs and special events.

Debbie Trueblood, CAE
Executive Director
