Jay Zahn is the new Director of Park Services for the Deerfield Park District.

In 1995, Jay Zahn was promoted to the position of assistant superintendent of parks. His primary responsibilities included managing the daily maintenance operations of 48 parks, eight buildings, 32 playgrounds and three swimming pools. In addition, Zahn was involved in planning, managing and coordinating construction and capital improvement projects.

Zahn is now in charge of a staff that includes a park operations supervisor, a mechanical maintenance supervisor and approximately 20 full-time and seasonal maintenance staff. He oversees the planning, design and implementation of park and building capital improvement projects and equipment purchases throughout the Deerfield Park District. District facilities include a 100,000 sq. ft. recreation and fitness center, an administrative and community center, an indoor swimming pool, two outdoor pools, an adult enrichment center, and a maintenance facility. Deerfield Park District encompasses more than 200 acres of park land, with 21 parks, 25 athletic fields, 21 playgrounds and a nature area.

Jay attended the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse where he received a bachelor of science degree in parks and recreation administration. He resides in Gurnee with his wife Mary and two children. Zahn replaces Rick Julison who was promoted to the executive director position in Deerfield this past spring.
