More than a year after Mayor de Blasio signed the Car Wash Accountability Act, the legislation is at a standstill – frozen by a lawsuit filed by car-wash owners. But city officials told City Limits this week that they will in the near future issue regulations for implementing the law, a step that will allow the legal fight over it to move ahead.

City leaders have tapped the brakes on a proposal to build a car wash on St. Charles’ west side because they want more information on its economic impact as well as its effect on traffic. Car Wash Development, LLC, seeks to put Wash-U – a 4,525-square-foot automatic car wash – in the vacant lot directly west of Buona Beef, 2425 W. Main St., St. Charles. The business also would provide 12 vacuum stations.

No one likes to be micromanaged. But when it comes to leadership, going too far in the opposite direction can be just as bad. That’s the conclusion Tanya Menon and Leigh Thompson reached in their new book, Stop Spending, Start Managing. By examining various wasteful habits that lead organizations to spend lots of money on consultants and lots of time on needless meetings, the authors identify what they call "The Macromanagement Trap." This involves "assuming your employees don’t need your direction."

Regardless of what we have heard about the preparedness issues in Rio, these Olympics have been simply captivating. We are raking in the medals, and I get goosebumps every time I see the American flag raised and hear our national anthem. And I love Michael Phelps as much as anyone else, but The Final Five have my heart and undivided attention. They are nothing short of amazing.

As a former CMO, I often consult with small business owners and startup founders regarding their marketing strategies. Usually these conversations start with the question, "Do I really need to invest in marketing?" It’s a valid query; startups are often short-staffed and have a laundry list of important tasks. The short answer, however? Yes!

Every business realizes the importance of reaching out to customers on social media. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to stand out, especially when you’re competing with messages from a person’s friends. As social media users scroll through their newsfeeds, it can be almost impossible for any one text-based post to stand out.
