Used electric car batteries are getting a second life—as cells on the power grid. Relectrify, an electronics company based in Melbourne, Australia, is currently working on a pilot with American Electric Power and Nissan to use expired batteries in building industrial energy storage. The technology, called a battery management system, could boost lithium-ion battery life by about a third and reduce overall costs by half.

International Car Wash Group (ICWG) announced the appointment of industry veteran Markus Hockenson as chief executive officer. Hockenson replaces Tom Mangas, who has decided to pursue other opportunities after a short transition period.

After 54 years at their previous location, Livingston Car Wash is officially relocating, with a soft opening scheduled for Jan. 29. According to longtime owner Paul Ritter, customers will be able to choose between a full-service machine-wash tunnel or a hand-wash tunnel for a more gentle car wash experience. Also unique to the new location is a “Sudsblaster,” which will provide a hands-on, interactive experience for kids.

Clean Ride Auto Spa, which is set to open in early February in Sioux Falls, S.D., will offer full-service options as well as a wide range of other services. Meeting the varying needs of customers was a central philosophy for the founders of this car wash, which will have a "flex service" business model.

WhiteWater Holding Company, LLC, an express car wash platform headquartered in Houston, has announced its acquisition of Rev Car Wash, LLC, a Dallas-based car wash operator. The acquisition of Rev adds three more locations to WhiteWater’s existing presence in the Dallas-Fort Worth market and expands WhiteWater’s current platform to 15 locations across Texas and Oklahoma.
