Citing "several conversations with a worldwide developer relations leader from Apple", Coburn predicts that shortly Apple will begin blocking the introduction of new (and updates of existing) stand-alone event apps, in favor, apparently, of monolithic vendor-specific "Universal" apps. He goes on to applaud the move as "the most exciting development for event tech since the iPhone itself."

Having spent a couple of decades building and refining public relations content and targeting platforms for the event space, I’ve identified what successful exhibitors consistently do well.
While there are many reasons to participate at events, two bubble to the top: build relationships and share content. When the right content and communications plan converge for your event, you build stronger relationships from events and deliver superior ROC (Return on Content).

How brands bring comics, movies, TV, and more to life for devoted fans.
Can an experience be simple, yet intense at the same time? Can an event cater to a loyal, perennial audience, yet at the same time wholeheartedly welcome and embrace newcomers?
These ideas seem to be contradictory, a paradox of brand experience. Yet, it all comes together at Comic-Con International: San Diego, the four-day mega-event that attracts over 130,000+ nerds, geeks, and fanboys (and girls) from around the world. Each year, America’s Finest City transforms from the home of great beaches, the largest number of craft breweries, and a totally laid-back vibe to that of a city overflowing with passionate, costume-clad fans of all ages, pulsing with excitement as they experience their Mecca: San Diego Comic-Con.

Last August, McDonald’s Japan posted its first profit in eight quarters after it tied in with Pokémon Go. By turning its restaurants into PokéStops and PokéGyms within the AR mobile game, the Japanese unit of McDonald’s saw its sales jump 27% in July 2016. That, in essence, is "brandtech," which is defined as the leveraging of technology for marketing purposes. "After that, people looked at it and said, ‘OK I get it. You can use augmented reality and location to drive major increases in footfalls and traffic and sales, and at no point has anyone seen an ad,’" said David Jones, the former Havas SA CEO and founder of brandtech firm You & Mr. Jones.

Social media's presence in the sales world is an old story by now, but the latest figures suggest its power in the space is stronger than you might think. LinkedIn recently gave me an early look at the findings from their second annual State of Sales Report for 2017. (You can download the PDF of the report directly here.) The study surveyed 2,000 business-to-business professionals based in the U.S. about how they perceive technology is impacting sales. Some of it's to be expected: Investment in sales tools is up, cold phone calls are less effective, and the majority of people consider technology important to closing deals.

Meetings are to exhibitions as cheeses are to wines: complementary stimuli that enhance the participant experience. With countless exhibitions incorporating education and entertainment as part of the proceedings, exhibition organizers must also consider meeting venues as auxiliary spaces in which to hold supporting events. Convention centers, of course, offer plenty of meeting rooms, as do adjacent hotels. But these don’t always fit the bill, when it comes to providing the novelty and excitement today’s attendees crave. That’s where an alternative space like a movie theater comes in.
