The Accessibility for Manitobans Act

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

The Accessibility for Manitobans Act (AMA) seeks to identify, prevent and remove barriers for those living with disabilities in Manitoba. It affects all everyone in our province, building on the requirements of The Human Rights Code (Manitoba) to create a made-in-Manitoba solution.

The AMA became law in December 2013 and is now undergoing a review of its accessibility standards that cover the key areas of daily living: customer service, employment, information and communication, transportation and the built environment.

The Government of Manitoba is working with representatives from the disability community, as well as public and private sector organizations to develop each of the accessibility standards.

Until Friday, January 12, 2018, the public is invited to provide feedback on The Government of Manitoba’s Proposed Accessible Employment Standard Regulation.

All electronic comments, submissions and briefs should be sent by email to access@gov.mb.ca.  When making your submission, we encourage you to include your CPHR designation as applicable.

Should you wish to notify CPHR Manitoba that you have made a submission, please cc by email at hello@cphrmb.ca using the subject line: Manitoba Employment Accessibility Standard.
