Join AGC Houston as we recognize and celebrate excellence in safety at the Midyear Meeting Wednesday, July 15, 7-9 a.m. This year's meeting will feature keynote speaker Derek Daly, a former racing driver from Ireland who won the 1977 British Formula Three Championship, and competed as a professional racing driver for 17 years participating in 64 World Championship Formula One Grand Prix.



AGC Houston will recognize member companies that participated in the Safety Stand-Down and the AGC Safety Excellence Awards.

Construction spending climbed in May to the highest level since October 2008, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America. The Federal Aviation Administration granted a launch site license to make Ellington Airport the 10th commercial spaceport in the U.S., the Houston Airport System announced June 30. Now, HAS can turn its attention to establishing the required infrastructure and support facilities needed to accommodate reusable launch vehicles, which will launch horizontally like commercial aircraft, rather than vertically. The Howard Hughes Corporation recently broke ground on Lakeland Village Center, the first commercial development in the master planned community Bridgeland. Phase 1 (20 acres) delivers in spring 2016 and will have 84,000 square feet of mixed-use space, including retail, restaurants and professional/medical offices. About 90% of the expansion work to widen and deepen the Panama Canal has been finished as the project enters its final stage. The third set of locks is 88% complete, and 16 rolling gates have been installed. Now, more than 150 valves to control water movement are being installed. The concrete placement volume has surpassed 5 million cubic yards.
