Safety
The AGC Houston Safety Committee planned for Friday, May 29, 2015 at 7:15 a.m. at the AGC Houston office has been cancelled and will reconvene in June. Due to the severe weather conditions, many safety supervisors and industry professionals are visiting jobsites this week to inspect damages. Contact Safety Director, Kim Mason, for more information.

Construction firms added 45,000 jobs in April and 280,000 over 12 months, as the sector's unemployment rate fell to a nine-year April low of 7.5 percent, according to an analysis by AGC of America.

The Treehouse Memorial City, a 14,700 square-foot building that serves as MetroNational’s development office, meeting space and showroom for current and future Memorial City projects, has been certified double LEED Platinum by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). With a score of 95 points, The Treehouse Memorial City has achieved LEED BD+C: CS (Core and Shell) Platinum Level, marking this project as the highest credit point total in Texas and the second highest in the U.S. for this rating system.

The bill that would create a fund to fix up to $1.5 billion in deferred maintenance on state infrastructure breezed through the Texas House on Thursday by a 146-0 vote. Having already passed the Senate, the bill now heads to Gov. Greg Abbott for consideration.

The $10 million renovation of Francis Hall at Texas A&M University puts the school in a one-of-a-kind position among institutions of higher education in the state. It is the only building anywhere in Texas dedicated solely to the education of construction sciences, according to Joe Horlen, who heads up the Department of Construction Science in College Station.
