Every year, dozens of workers die and thousands more become ill while working in extreme heat or humid conditions. There are a range of heat illnesses and they can affect anyone regardless of age or physical condition.

Employers should have an emergency plan in place that specifies what to do if a worker has signs of heat-related illness and ensures that medical services are available if needed.

Read the recommended Standard Occupational Exposure to Heat and Hot Environments and consider incorporating these safety measures in your company's safety and health program.

A good safety plan includes information on how to stay safe during a tornado, how to prepare a plan and emergency kit, staying aware of weather conditions during thunderstorms, knowing the best places to shelter both indoors and outdoors and always protecting your head.
