Construction Official Urges Congress to Act Quickly to Pass New Infrastructure Legislation Now that the President Has Outlined an Ambitious Plan to Invest $200 Billion in New Federal Funds

AGC spoke out against proposed guidelines that would make establishing new mitigation banks more onerous.  The draft guidelines would make investment in mitigation less attractive and increase the cost of projects that rely on robust mitigation banks to comply with legal requirements and stay on budget.

Republicans and Democrats have agreed on a fiscal 2018 spending bill that increases federal infrastructure spending by $21.2 billion. Highways will get a $3.5 billion boost under the bill's terms, and spending on the country's airports will increase by $1 billion.

The Architecture Billings Index increased in February, and American Institute of Architects chief economist Kermit Baker said the organization remains "optimistic about the trends we're seeing at architecture firms this year." The Federal Reserve on Wednesday raised its key interest rate to a
range between 1.5% and 1.75%, an increase of a quarter of a percentage point,
in its first meeting under Chairman Jerome Powell. The rate-setting committee
responded to a stronger economic outlook by signaling a brisker rate of
increases in 2019 and 2020 than it has suggested in the past.
