Join Us for Fundamentals of Building Trades - MEP Systems on December 6!

The Fundamentals of Building Trades - MEP Systems course is a one-session, in-person program designed to provide a condensed overview of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. This course is taught by Johnny Saldana of Raven Mechanical, LP. 

Course Objectives:

This course provides fundamental knowledge and understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, & Plumbing (MEP) systems in buildings. People spend 93% of their life indoors; this results in collaboration for maximum aesthetics, efficiency, economy, comfort, & safety for the life of the structures. The ideal candidate for this course is an individual seeking industry knowledge or in management/estimating/superintendent positions and will benefit from expert building standard MEP construction for commercial spaces. 

Seasoned experts combine industry knowledge and skills to fast track your learning experience in a condensed course to save you time and energy in MEP principles. This course will have an emphasis in MEP Systems and Materials, Construction Phases, Procurement, Constructability, Specialty Equipment and Design Limitations, Industry Insights, and Commissioning and Preventative Maintenance

Call to Action: Leadership AGC Now Accepting Applications

Leadership AGC is designed to ensure that the greater Houston commercial construction industry is well represented in the future in key leadership positions, both inside and outside the industry. This program provides up-and-coming industry leaders with an intensive experience that fosters relationships and encompasses a broad scope of community and industry concerns.

What are the benefits?
In addition to learning specific leadership and management skills, participants will broaden their exposure to the community, meet with their industry peers and establish lasting contacts to expand their professional networks. 

What does the program cover?
Leadership AGC will offer a full roster of educational and useful events designed for the Houston-area young construction professional who will become a future leader in his/her firm and our chapter. The series will connect Leadership AGC members with leaders in the construction, development, business, medical, industrial, political and educational arenas.

What does the program cost?
The $2,500 tuition covers all associated fees, course materials, luncheons, excursions, socials, and group transportation.

Due to limited space, Leadership AGC is limited to 20 participants and is by application only.

AGC Houston Scholarship Applications Now Open!


AGC Houston will be awarding Patrick J. Kiley Excellence in Leadership scholarships to college-bound and university students who are majoring in a construction-related discipline.

In its 27th year, the AGC Houston scholarship program has awarded over 200 scholarships totaling $635,000. Click here to apply.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Applicant must pursue a degree relating to a career in construction.
  • Applicant must be an employee or dependent of an employee of an AGC Houston member firm or an
  • AGC Student Chapter member.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a college, university, or accredited training program during fall semester 2022.
  • Current high school seniors and college students are eligible to apply.

Award Information

  • All applicants selected as finalists will be interviewed by the Committee in March 2023.
  • Applicant must plan to enroll for the upcoming fall semester.

 

 Call for Nominations: AGC Houston Standard of Excellence Award


Presented annually, this prestigious award gives special recognition to a construction industry employee who most exemplifies the highest standards of excellence. All construction industry employees are eligible to be nominated for this award! 

Who can be nominated? 
All construction industry employees are eligible - employees of general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, service companies, architects, and engineers.  

What is the nomination criteria?
The individual must consistently set the standard of excellence in regards to commitment to quality, customer service, cooperation, teamwork, and professionalism. Nominations can be based on either a daily commitment to excellence or outstanding personal effort on a special project or event in the workplace. 

How do you nominate a deserving individual?
To nominate someone you believe exemplifies the standard of excellence in the construction industry, simply submit a nomination form.

Nomination letters are due by December 31, 2022.

Applications for AGC's Construction Safety Excellence Awards (CSEA) Are Now Open

2023 Nominations Deadline: December 15, 2022

 


 
The purpose of the CSEA is to recognize those construction companies that excel at safety performance. The CSEA closely examines each candidate's commitment to safety and occupational health management and risk control. Unlike other safety award programs that limit the criteria to frequency rates, the CSEA selection process is considerably more comprehensive.

Each application will be reviewed for evidence of:

  • Company management commitment
  • Active employee participation
  • Safety training
  • Worksite hazard identification and control
  • Safety program innovation

The 2023 Construction Safety Excellence Awards competition is now open and available through the AGC of America Website. You are not required to apply through the AGC Houston chapter. Click here to access the application; you will be directed to Formsite, the application platform. Applicants must create an account to view/complete the application. You will also see an option to download a PDF of the application.
