AGC of America urged Congress to act quickly on the Workforce for an Expanding Economy Act that was introduced on March 13 by Pennsylvania Congressmen Lloyd Smucker. The measure would establish the only federal temporary visa program for construction, among other industries covered by the measure.  
33 States Add Jobs in Latest Month as Association Calls for Investing in Training 
“Contractors began 2019 by adding employees in nearly all parts of the country,” stated AGC of America's chief economist, Ken Simonson. “These figures are consistent with the optimism contractors expressed about workloads and hiring plans in our association’s recent survey. But finding workers to execute those projects is likely to be an ongoing challenge.”

More than 14,000 yards of concrete were poured over the course of 20 hours this past Saturday at the new site of Hines Interests' new Texas Tower, located on the former block of the Houston Chronicle building. Gilbane Building Company's Dan Gilbane stated: "Over the past 10 years Gilbane has built over 10 million square feet office space in Houston and we are excited to work with Hines to deliver the next best in class asset.” Baker Concrete and Cemex led a continuous rotation of concrete trucks, pouring the 12-foot-thick mat foundation of the C3 project developed by Hines and its investment partner Ivanhoé Cambridge in downtown Houston. The 47-story tower is three weeks ahead of schedule and will consolidate all of Hines' Houston employees once it is completed.

Camarata Masonry Systems, Ltd. recently announced the promotion of four employees:

Robert Brown as Safety Director. In his position as Safety Coordinator for the past five years, he has been responsible for administering the company’s safety plan and coordinating with clients in all areas and market sectors. Brown is active in the AGC Houston Safety Committee and a 2017 Leadership AGC graduate.

Jim Ricard as Chief Estimator – Masonry Division. Jim has 34 years of experience in the construction industry and has successfully estimated work for numerous multi-million dollar projects in a multi-state area. In his new role, Jim will be responsible for hiring, training and supervising estimating staff as well as maintaining and creating client relationships.

 Ron LaRicci has been promoted to President. Ron has been with the company since inception and has more than 35 years in the construction industry. In his new role, he will be responsible for the stone, masonry and tile/terrazzo divisions in the Texas and Florida offices.

Rene Lozano as Vice President. In his 20 years of experience in the construction industry, Rene has successfully managed multiple multi-million dollar stone and masonry projects in all market sectors served by the company. As Vice President, Rene will assume responsibility for all masonry operations conducted from the Houston office.

On Feb. 5, the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Committee advanced President Trump’s nomination of Andrew Wheeler as administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency—a move which AGC supported in a letter to the committee.
The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently announced the launch of an enhanced electronic version of its Handy Reference Guide to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). This new online version of one of the Wage and Hour Division’s (WHD) most popular publications is intended to assist American employers and workers with a simple, easy-to-follow resource that provides basic WHD information, as well as links to other resources.
Behind-the-scenes job site footage and updated renderings of the Texas Rangers' $1.2 billion Global Life Stadium are now available. Many of the materials for the project, including precast concrete, limestone, steel and brick, are being supplied by in-state companies.
