Verdict

The Verdict Editorial Board is pleased to announce that we are in the final stages of the publication cycle for the Fall 2015 edition! This quarter's theme -- Litigating Beyond State Lines -- focuses on pitfalls to avoid, strategies to employ and tips to take with you when your cases take you beyond state (or international) borders. Some of the highlights of the forthcoming edition will include: > Avoiding Landmines: Identifying, Locating and Serving the Non-U.S. Corporate Defendant; > Getting Out-of-State Evidence: Domesticating a Subpoena; > What You Need to Know About Mass Torts and Multidistrict Litigation; > And so much more! Keep an eye out for the Fall edition to arrive in your mailboxes in the next few weeks and, as always, we hope that you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed putting it together!

Legislative News

On Wednesday, Oct. 14th, the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association hosted the 2015 Political & Legislative Summit, where we were joined by nearly 100 GTLA members and invited guests for an afternoon of legislative strategy, keynote speakers and political insight. Beginning with a panel discussion entitled "Working with the Media in the 21st Century," attendees heard about best practices, lessons learned and much more from some of our state's premier reporters. Later, GTLA members heard from Senate Majority Leader Bill Cowsert, House Minority Leader Stacey Abrams and Speaker David Ralston, all of whom shared stories and advice from under the Gold Dome.

If you couldn't make it to this year's Summit, stay tuned to find out how you can get involved with GTLA's legislative efforts as we approach the 2016 Legislative Session and then quickly segue into campaign season. It's an exciting time to be a part of GTLA!

Media Panel (L-R): Kathy Tucker, Kate Brumback,
Lori Geary, Shannon McCaffrey and Jim Strickland.

You're invited to join GTLA's New Lawyers Division as they volunteer with Project Open Hand from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15. During this event, NLD members will be preparing and packaging Market Baskets, which provide a weekly supply of groceries to low-income, medically-eligible clients who have the ability to prepare their own meals but who do not have the strength or income to purchase their own groceries. Volunteers will work as a team to place nonperishable items and fresh produce into grocery bags. This event will take place in a climate-controlled warehouse. Closed-toed shoes are required. Spaces are extremely limited, so be sure to RSVP early!

Grassroots Report

Last week, the Gwinnett Trial Lawyers Association gathered at the 1818 Club for a Kick-Off Mixer & Happy Hour. In addition to dozens of local attorney members, Gwinnett TLA was also joined by GTLA President Darren Penn, members of the Gwinnett County legislative delegation, Gwinnett State Court Judges and judicial staff and members of the GTLA staff. It was a great evening of fun and fellowship for all in attendance, and the event gave the Gwinnett Trial Lawyers Association a lot of great momentum heading into 2016!
