GSAE Millennials are Taking a GOOD way.

Millennials are entering the workforce—including our associations—at a rate comparable to that of Baby Boomers in their workforce entry peak.  The Millennial generation, identified as having been born between 1981 and 2000, is constantly being dissected and discussed as a faceless entity.  There is certainly no shortage of resources out there offering advice about "How to Manage / Hire / Mentor / Talk to / Eat Lunch with a Millennial."

Indeed, Millennials are contributing to the world around us.  In fact, Millennials are already joining our associations, serving in leadership roles and making an impact on our staff teams.  And now, Millennials have taken the reigns to plan the first ever GSAE Millennial Infusion Luncheon, on July 9 at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta!

The Millennial Infusion luncheon will lead attendees on a collaborative exploration into common notions about Millennials and learn how best to work in today’s multi-generational association.  Based on research and data, common myths about Millennials will be validated or busted, giving those in attendance—regardless of generation—a deeper understanding of how different generations can work with one another toward a greater result.

Morning Workshop: Drugs Don't Work in Georgia
The Drugs Don’t Work in GA program assists companies in achieving and maintaining state certification as a drug free workplace. Certified drug free companies receive a state-mandated 7.5% discount on workers compensation insurance.*  Certification is a simple 5 step process.  Chuck Wade will detail the five steps required for certification.  Chuck is the President and CEO of The Council on Alcohol and Drugs.  He has been the state director of Drugs Don’t Work in Georgia for the past seventeen years.

In her new role, Mary Wheatley will be responsible for the overall management of the Rheumatology Research Foundation, including operations and fiscal oversight, 18 FTE staff, an annual budget of $16 million and net assets of $70 million.  Working closely with the Foundation Board and Executive Committee, Mary will work to fulfill the mission and goals of the Foundation to advance research and training to improve the health of people with rheumatic diseases.  

Mary currently serves on GSAE's Board of Directors and was a member of the inaugural GSAE Leadership Academy class of 2009.  Most recently, she served as the Senior Director of Research and Training for the American College of Rheumatology.
Twelve scholars have been chosen to join the Diversity Executive Leadership Program (DELP) as the class of 2014–2016.  DELP provides individuals from underrepresented segments of the association profession an opportunity to advance into the ranks of leadership in association management by providing access to ASAE educational programs, career guidance and networking opportunities.  Please join us in congratulating our two Georgia-based DELP scholars: Gabriel Eckert, CAE, Executive Director, Building Owners and Managers Association of Georgia and Tangela Monroe, Assistant Director, American Institute of Architects/Georgia.

The GSAE Nominating Committee is soliciting names of members interested in serving on the GSAE Board of Directors.  The Nominating Committee will include Past Chair, Aubie Knight, CIC, CRM; Chair Susan Cheshire, CAE; Chair elect Jim Fowler, CAE; and two at large association executive members (to be named by the GSAE Board of Directors on August 28).
Five seats for individual association member directors and one seat for a corporate supplier director will be available for two-year terms, beginning January 1, 2015.
If you or someone you know would like to be considered, please send the name and a brief description of qualifications to Wendy. All candidates must be members in good standing.  Deadline for nominations is September 15, 2014.
The slate of nominees will be offered to the membership for review no later than Friday, October 10.  Board members and officers will be accepted and installed at the GSAE Annual Business Meeting during the Holiday Luncheon & Silent Auction December 10th at the Georgia Aquarium.

The Leadership Committee of ASAE and the ASAE Foundation announced the selected nominees to serve on the ASAE and the ASAE Foundation Boards of Directors for Fiscal Year 2015 (FY15), which begins September 1, 2014.  We are delighted to congratulate one of our own from Georgia.  Mark Vaughan, Executive Vice President, Chief Sales & Marketing, Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau, has been slated to serve a three year term in the Industry Partner Position for both ASAE and the ASAE Foundation.  The new board will be officially installed and join the remaining board members at the 2014 ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition, August 9-12 in Nashville, Tennessee.  Read more here.
