MPT Conference Join us for the new MPT Conference at the Motion + Power Technology Expo one of 16 speakers includes Kirk Rogers, PhD, Senior ADDvisorSM, The Barnes Group Advisors. The additive manufacturing/3D metal printing scene has exploded in the last three years with several new players and several new technologies. Kirk will outline the seven different additive manufacturing technologies, as defined by ASTM Committee F42. He will discuss how these technologies can be used to manufacture complex geometries and how it can reduce gear systems inertia through the use of advanced designs that are difficult to manufacture conventionally. He will also provide the most up-to-date information on new players from the eyes of someone who has spent more than 20 years in this space.

AGMA Learn the fundamentals of gear manufacturing in this hands-on course. Gain an understanding of gearing and nomenclature, principles of inspection, gear manufacturing methods, and hobbing and shaping. Utilizing manual machines, develop a deeper breadth of perspective and understanding of the process and physics of making a gear as well as the ability to apply this knowledge in working with CNC equipment commonly in use. This course is taught at Daley College. A shuttle bus is available each day to transport students to and from the hotel.

AGMA Gain a solid and fundamental understanding of gear geometry, types and arrangements, and design principles. Starting with the basic definitions of gears, conjugate motion, and the Laws of Gearing, learn the tools needed to understand the inter-relation and coordinated motion operating within gear pairs and multi-gear trains. Basic gear system design process and gear measurement and inspection techniques will also be explained. In addition, the fundamentals of understanding the step-wise process of working through the iterative design process required to generate a gear pair will be reviewed. Learn the steps and issues involved in design refinement and some manufacturing considerations. An explanation of basic gear measurement techniques, how measurement equipment and test machines implement these techniques, and how to interpret the results from these basic measurements will also be covered.

TCT Magazine Jigs, fixtures and other tools utilised in manufacturing can be the backbone of a production floor. Jigs and fixtures can be off-the-shelf, but often manufacturers will custom design their own manufacturing aids for unique operations to their products. Additive manufacturing (AM) eliminates cost, lead time and design barriers to adopt manufacturing aids on the shop floor.

Machine Design The world’s average robot density is 74 robots per 10,000 employees, according to the World Robot Statistics. With 189 robots per 10,000 employees, the U.S. sits comfortably above the average. However, despite welcoming robotics to automotive production lines as early as the 1960s, the nation is still perceived as keeping automation at arm’s length.
