The concept of cognitive technology has existed for decades, regardless of the misconception that it is a modern day buzz trend. In the marketing industry for example, data has been consistently analyzed in order to target and engage specific customers. The next battlefield is not capturing data but being able to analyse it, and those being asked to analyse it are not humans but machines. This is known as predictive maintenance, a process that builds cognitive learning into equipment, allowing for the data being generated through multiple sensors to be processed which means future breakdowns or faults can be predicted ahead of them occurring.

Eight months after General Motors launched the Chevrolet Bolt, the all-electric CUV generally has been well-received, winning multiple awards and, for the most part, keeping pace with sales targets. Whether the market is ready for the Bolt, which went on sale earlier this month; whether customers consider its advertised 238-mile (383-km) range sufficient to alleviate anxiety; and whether it can be sold without subsidies all are issues to be resolved over time.

Ace Metal Crafts in Bensenville, Illinois, needed to find a way to reduce its production lead time. Harbor-UCLA Medical Center’s eye clinic wanted to serve more patients. SBP sought to reduce the amount of time it takes to rebuild homes after natural disasters. These are some of the more than 300 organizations throughout North America that have collaborated with Toyota to find better ways of doing their day-to-day work. For 25 years, Toyota Motor North America, through its Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC), has shared the "Toyota Production System," (TPS) the same operational philosophy and practices the company follows in its own factories to make automobiles.

Amazon, bursting out of its Seattle headquarters, is hunting for a second home. Must haves: A prime location, close to transit, with plenty of space to grow. The company said Thursday that it will spend more than $5 billion to build another headquarters in North America to house as many as 50,000 employees. It plans to stay in its sprawling Seattle headquarters and the new space will be "a full equal" of its current home, said founder and CEO Jeff Bezos.

Manufacturing Business Technology

Additive manufacturing is often used synonymously with 3D printing in which the similarity is the process of layering various material components. The material added layer by layer can be a form of metal, plastic, concrete or at some point human tissue. The industrial additive manufacturing process typically uses a laser beam to fuse these powder or liquid materials together to create a 99.9 percent metallurgical bond at defined points as directed by computer.stl files. This process is faster, offers high levels of precision and reduces production costs. Since the initial investment in the equipment is more expensive than a standard machine tool, many manufacturers look to finance this capital expense rather than pay cash.

Not long ago we came across a very experienced scientist tasked with fixing an underperforming confectionary line. He was planning an in-depth theoretical study to find a way to solve the problem. That study would take longer than a year to complete. Instead within weeks we got the information we needed. We used a range of simple off-the-shelf sensors which helped us identify and fix the problem quickly. The sweets were soon flying even faster off the production line.
