3D Printing Industry

Already known adopting 3D printing in various respects, aircraft manufacturer Boeing is driving 3D printing innovation further by patenting a new 3D printing technology that actually prints objects while they are floating in midair. That’s right; this newly patented technique is meant to 3D print objects while that particular object is simultaneously levitating.

U.S. News & World Report

It’s hard to believe that U.S. manufacturing in considered by many analysts to be on the brink only months after domestic automotive sales soared to never-before-seen-levels. Yet the industry’s economic activity has been contracting for at least four months, according to the Institute for Supply Management. Outside of car production, America’s goods-producers are languishing, with few other industries catching a whole lot of traction.

Consumer purchases climbed in January by the most in eight months, fueled by faster earnings growth that’s being accompanied by rising inflation.

The 0.5 percent advance followed a 0.1 percent gain the prior month, a Commerce Department report showed Friday. The January figure exceeded the 0.3 percent median forecast in a Bloomberg survey. Incomes also climbed 0.5 percent, more than projected.

This will be the year of action for manufacturers. The industry has had enough talking. We’re through with speculating, forecasting and trying to wrap our heads around abstract projections and drawing board concepts. Plans are moving from the "maybe" stage to the "make it happen" stage. Manufacturers are ready to focus. And, ready to invest. That’s the good thing.

It’s a controversial subject: some suggest that the 3D printing hype has peaked, while others argue that 3D printing and manufacturing go hand-in-hand. For now, the role of 3D printing in manufacturing is still unclear, although there does seem to be a growing consensus that hybrid additive manufacturing technology will become more common.

Caterpillar is one of the most renowned industrial brands. It makes the kind of heavy machinery – loaders, excavators and off-road trucks – that is used in construction, mining and transport industries when things need to get dug out or shifted somewhere.
