Baraboo News Republic In the next 20 years, the number of Wisconsin residents over age 65 is expected to double from 750,000 to 1.5 million, said Jim Morgan, vice president of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce, and president of the WMC Foundation. Over that same period, the state anticipates about 300,000 job vacancies and just 15,000 people in the 18- to 65-year-old age group to fill them. Further, manufacturers will be competing with all sectors for those workers, according to Morgan.

Las Vegas Sun Employment in the manufacturing sector declined slowly through the 1980s and 1990s, but since 2000, the decline has been much faster, with the sector losing more than 6 million workers between 2000 and 2010. There were hopes that manufacturing jobs would regain much of their lost ground once the recession ended, but the number of jobs has climbed by less than 1 million in the recovery so fa,r and employment has been essentially flat since the first quarter of 2015.
