ShopfloorMarket leaders continue to play the guessing game of when the Federal Reserve Board will start to normalize short-term interest rates. Conventional wisdom suggests that the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will begin to raise the federal funds rate sometime in 2015 from the near-zero levels that have been prevalent since the financial crisis in 2008.

ForbesOne reason why manufacturing is returning to the U.S. is stagnant wages. Other reasons are because of logistics, location to other markets the manufacturer is targeting, and high productivity due to automation. Still, the good news is that manufacturing is returning to the U.S. In fact, the new global hot spots for widget making assembly lines are right here in North America, led by us and our Mexican neighbors.

Manufacturing.netIn today’s economy, selling has changed and is more complex than ever before. While companies once sold a product with an attached volume discount, they’re now selling a solution or concept to customers who demand more. These customers want products and services specifically tailored to their needs and priced expressly for them. This makes managing your bottom line tougher than ever, especially when you’re up against forces like a sagging market economy and aggressive competitors who threaten to put a squeeze on your margins.

Manufacturing Business TechnologyAround the globe, intelligent and pervasive industrial automation has been catapulted in recent years to a top national or regional priority. Known by different names, e.g., "Advanced Manufacturing", "Smart Manufacturing", "Industry 4.0" or "Factories of the Future" to highlight a few, these initiatives all bear the same characteristics, i.e., transforming the manufacturing process from a patchwork of isolated silos to a nimble and seamless whole fully integrated with the downstream and upstream production environment. There is, in fact, a close link between modern manufacturing and the advent of the Internet of Things.
