H55’s first plane has room for two and can stay aloft for just about 90 minutes.

The research paper is part of a partnership between the laboratories to identify the causes of defects in metal 3D printed parts and understand how those flaws can be mitigated.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced Friday the awarding of 26 grants to several schools across the state, including three in the Pittsburgh region. AMendate, a German provider of fully automated topology optimization software for additive manufacturing has been acquired by Hexagon AB, a Sweden-based global technology company. Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division revealed that AMendate will be joining the MSC Software arm of Hexagon, which provides computer-aided engineering (CAE) simulation software and services.

A partnership between SW/TCH Maritime and Global Gate Zero Emission Marine will expedite the launch of the first zero-emission, hydrogen fuel cell ferry, according to reports. The 84-passenger ferry, dubbed the “Water Go Round,” which is currently under construction at the Bay Ship & Yacht shipyard in Alameda, California, will begin transporting commuters across San Francisco Bay once construction is completed in September and the ferry undergoes a three-month long proof of concept trial in the Fall.

The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL) announced today the recipients of its Scaling Apprenticeship Through Sector-based Strategies grant. The grant includes a $12 million award to Ohio’s Lorain County Community College (LCCC), the lead applicant in collaboration with Ohio TechNet (OTN) and the Ohio Manufacturers’ Association (OMA), collectively known as the Ohio Manufacturing Workforce Partnership (OMWP). This acquisition is complementary to MHI’s commercial aircraft business, in particular the development of the Mitsubishi SpaceJet commercial aircraft family unveiled at the recent Paris Airshow.

Details were scant when Lightyear first revealed plans to build a solar-powered electric car back in 2017, apart from a claimed 800 km range per charge.
