Manufacturers added 31,000 workers in February, and revisions in the December and January data increased employment in the sector by 28,000 in total from previous estimates. As such, the latest jobs numbers confirm that the labor market has tightened significantly, with manufacturers increasing employment by a rather robust 18,876 per month on average since the end of 2016.

The Digital Manufacturing Design and Innovation Institute (DMDII) has announced the launch of a "Cyber Hub for Manufacturing" with $750,000 in seed funding from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The hub will serve as a testbed for the creation and adoption of new cybersecurity technologies to secure manufacturing shop floors across the United States and complements DMDII’s public-private partnership as one of the Manufacturing USA institutes sponsored by DoD to advance the state-of-the-art in digital manufacturing in America.
The number of manufacturing jobs in Ohio has slowly ticked up in recent months, but a new report finds several trends that could undermine the future of the industry. The report, by the left-leaning think tank Policy Matters Ohio, looks at 27 years of data on the state’s manufacturing labor force.

3D-Hybrid, a machine tool company based in California, has released a set of printheads that deliver metal additive manufacturing to existing CNC machines. According to the company, the range can be installed in "nearly any CNC machine," turning it into a hybrid additive and subtractive manufacturing system.
Tesla Semi prototyes were spotted at a Supercharger station near Sacramento on their way down from Gigafactory 1 in Nevada for their first cargo trip test. It gave the opportunity for people to catch up with the prototypes and give us our best look at the electric trucks towing trailers.

On Friday, we learned that manufacturers added 31,000 workers in February, continuing to hire new employees at a solid pace. Indeed, the manufacturing sector has increased employment by 264,264 workers since the end of 2016, averaging 18,876 per month over that 14-month time frame.
