U.S. manufacturers flexed plenty of muscle in October. Almost all of the latest regional data, industry figures and government reports boasted momentum in the nation’s industrial sector, and it’s probably poised to continue at least through year-end.
While most players in the automotive industry believe that autonomous cars, with varying degrees of autonomy, will soon see the light of day, a study by McKinsey & Company indicates that only up to 15 percent of new cars will be autonomous by 2030. For decades to come, then, automakers will be producing both autonomous and traditional cars simultaneously.

According to new data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis, manufacturing was one of the larger contributors to real GDP growth in the second quarter, adding 0.36 percentage points to top-line growth of 3.1 percent. Real value-added output from manufacturing increased 3.2 percent in the second quarter, extending the 4.0 percent gain in the first quarter. Overall, value-added output for manufacturing rose from $2.206 trillion in the first quarter to $2.219 trillion in the second quarter, a new all-time high.

The first company to obtain a permit for fracking in Illinois announced Friday it won't use it, citing market conditions and the state's "burdensome and costly" regulations. Wichita, Kansas-based Woolsey Companies Inc. was given permission in September by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to drill near the southeast Illinois community of Enfield.
