Boeing and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have announced an agreement to strengthen their collaboration to enhance the competitive edge of both businesses. This includes joint efforts to reduce costs in Mitsubishi’s production of wings for the 787 Dreamliner, plus studies into advanced aerostructure technologies for future generations of commercial aircraft.

Ten students with a focus of a career in the gear industry received AGMA Foundation Scholarship awards for the 2017-2018 academic year. Each fall, the Foundation awards $5,000 scholarships at the Undergraduate/Graduate levels, and $2,000 scholarships at the Associate/Technical school levels. Eighty-six percent of scholarship recipients are employed in the gear industry!

A new finding by MIT researchers could have implications for how 3D printed surface coating is carried out. The technique employs the use of self-peeling metallic droplets and increased adhesion through thermal control of the surface. They can also increase the adhesive capabilities of the droplets by changing their relative temperature to the surface.

Rice University engineer Sibani Lisa Biswal and her colleagues used their unique microfluidic devices, instruments that use a small amount of fluid on a microchip to perform a test, to examine four commercial chemical dispersants that curtail the buildup of asphaltene in wells and pipelines. The devices allowed them to watch how the dispersants react with asphaltenes.
