The latest monthly poll of U.S. supply executives indicated growth in the nation's manufacturing sector for the third consecutive month in November. The Institute for Supply Management's November Purchasing Managers' Index of 53.2 percent represented an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to October and again remained above the 50 percent level, which reflects growth.

Oerlikon has acquired citim of Germany, a company in additive manufacturing design and production of metal components. The acquisition expands Oerlikon’s additive manufacturing technology and service portfolio with established 3D printing capabilities in Europe and in the U.S. Both parties agreed not to disclose the financial details of the transaction.

With the extensive growth that researchers are forecasting in U.S. manufacturing, manufacturers across the country are focusing on modernizing their plant floors. More than half of manufacturing leaders expect revenues to grow 5 percent or more each year over the next five years, according to a recent report from IndustryWeek, "The Future of Manufacturing: 2020 and Beyond."
Last week, Port CEO Allard Castelein officially opened RAMLAB (Rotterdam Additive Manufacturing LAB). This is the first Fieldlab with 3D metal printers that focusses on 3D metal printing in the port-related industry. RAMLAB will use 3D metal printers for knowledge development in metal printing,  3D designs and certifications.

The manufacturing industry in Illinois continues to show job losses, despite October's net gain of 1,600 jobs. The preliminary data released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) shows the first small gain since June, although the overall manufacturing-jobs data shows a net loss of 10,000 jobs in the past year.

Lucid Motors, a new electric car company, announced at a press conference today that it would begin building its manufacturing center in Casa Grande, Arizona, in 2017.
