Horsburgh and Scott completed building the largest replacement gearbox they have ever manufactured. The unit is a gigantic Reduction Stand #2 (R2) Steel Rolling Mill Gearbox manufactured by Horsburgh and Scott to replace a 30 year old unit for a large steel company in Ohio. The R2 gearbox is the second in a series of five or six reduction stand gearboxes that roll steel sheets into a desired thickness, thinner and thinner through each gearbox, and after going through final finishing stand gearboxes, produce steel as thin as 1/8 of an inch.

Connecticut’s state college system is partnering with some of the state’s biggest manufacturers in an attempt to place graduates directly into open positions. The partnership will kick off with a push called 300 jobs, 300 days, which will aim to boost enrollment in the state’s advanced manufacturing courses.

Romax is collaborating with Technical University Darmstadt to develop a simulation model to predict gearbox efficiency, by supporting a PhD student from the Technical University Darmstadt in Germany on a project to develop a model that predicts the power loss of a complete transmission.

Ovivo
A contract to supply two complete intake screening plants for a pumping station on the East Coast of the United States was awarded to Ovivo’s Energy group. Through its heritage brand Brackett Green, Ovivo will supply equipment which complies with the requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency Clean Water Act 316 (b) standard of 0.5 foot per second velocity through the water intake traveling screens. Ovivo will also provide a fish return system to allow fish to be collected and safely returned back to the water source. The delivery of the project is scheduled for the second quarter of fiscal 2018.
