MarketWatch Sixty thousand manufacturing jobs were added in the U.S. in 2014, versus 12,000 in 2003, either through so-called reshoring, in which American companies bring jobs back to the U.S., or foreign direct investment, in which foreign companies move production to the U.S., according to a study from the Reshoring Initiative. In the US, some herald the growing use of robotics saying that it will reshore manufacturing and increase productivity. However, others fear the job losses that robots may create. While robotics may displace some workers, it creates a need for individuals to work with or maintain these technologies. Demand for robotics skilled workers in manufacturing increased 43% when comparing February 2015 to February 2014.

Detroit Free Press General Motors will announce a new round of plant investments Thursday at its Pontiac Metal Center just as an independent report found the company's U.S. manufacturing employment reached its highest level last year since the 2009 bankruptcy.

The Monett Times Ground has been broken for two additions at Advanced Jiffy Machine in Monett. Construction will add new 12,990 square feet to the company's production plant. The gear manufacturing machine shop, located in the Monett Industrial Park since 1983, will double its manufacturing space with the additions.
