New Hampshire Union Leader A manufacturing revolution is underway in New England, according to a report by the New England Council that calls for regional collaboration on a Network for Manufacturing Innovation. New Hampshire was cited in the report as a hotbed of innovation, with references to companies like Dyn and initiatives like the state’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

Firstpost Industrial production grew at nine-month high of 5 percent in February on improved mining and manufacturing activity coupled with larger offtake of capital goods. The factory output, as measured by the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), had declined by 2 percent in February 2014.

Forbes Mexico’s economy has performed well relative to other major Latin American economies in recent years, largely because of its thriving manufacturing sector. Unlike Brazil and Argentina, whose manufacturing sectors are slumping, Mexico has continued to see solid growth because of its integration with and dependence on the U.S. market.
 
The Motley Fool Automaker Toyota Motor Corp disrupted the automotive industry when it developed a lean manufacturing process known as the Toyota Production System. That process could also be the key to help oil drillers survive the currently weak price of oil.
 
Rochester Business Journal New York has committed $250 million toward a Rochester-based and New York-led application to secure a federal manufacturing institute. "The strong industry and state support we’ve built for our bid to secure the federal Institute for Manufacturing Innovation gives our application the competitive advantage needed to compete and win," said Rep. MarketWatch Global car sales climbed to record highs in February, according to the Scotiabank Global Auto Report released today. However, the gain moderated to less than one percent above a year earlier, the smallest increase in two years. Western Europe posted the fastest growth, followed by solid gains in North America and Asia, while activity continued to weaken in both Eastern Europe and South America.

Dayton Business Journal Jim Wharton has been named president of UTC’s Landing Systems division effective immediately. Wharton had been co-leading Troy operations with Dave Castagnola, who served as president of the division since it formed about a year ago when UTC combined its Landing Gear and Wheels and Brakes units. Castagnola is retiring, a spokesperson said.

IndustryWeek Alcoa Wednesday reported stronger first-quarter earnings on growing demand from its aerospace and automotive operations, even as restructuring costs again weighed on results. The metals giant, the first large industrial company to report quarterly results, notched net income of $195 million for the quarter ending March 31, compared with a loss of $178 million in the year-ago period.
 
Aerospace Manufacturing and Design Nasmyth Group, a global supplier of precision engineering, products, and services, is opening its new regional North American Headquarters this month. The Group has acquired a 25,000ft2 facility in Burbank, California – located immediately adjacent to the premises of subsidiary, Nasmyth TMF – which will become the focal point for Nasmyth Group and its corporate activities in the USA.
