IndustryWeek U.S. manufacturers and machine shops ordered $647.63 million worth of new machining and cutting equipment, a rise of 77.3% over the $365.18 million recorded for August, and 61.4% over the total of $401.18 million reported for September 2013.
IndustryWeek In an effort to drive implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies across its manufacturing footprint, GE announced that is building a new facility just outside of Pittsburgh. GE will invest $32 million over three years which will result in the creation of 50 high-tech engineering jobs initially, in disciplines ranging from mechanical and electrical to systems and software engineering.

SIPCO U.S. manufacturing output grew modestly in October, as autoworkers churned out fewer cars and trucks. The Federal Reserve says output at manufacturing plants rose 0.2 per cent in October. Gains came from the rising demand for machinery, plastics, clothing and furniture.

Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel A dozen new graduates of an entry level manufacturing skills class each received the gift of a job offer Friday from Milwaukee Gear Co., Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett said. The grads, ages 19 to 56, completed 10 weeks of training in basic skills and computerized numerical control that had been customized for the company through the Mayor's Manufacturing Partnership.

Business Insider Manufacturing activity in New York rebounded in November, but still came in below expectations in the New York Fed's latest Empire State manufacturing survey. The headline index for November came in at 10.2.
Shopfloor Manufacturing production rose 0.2 percent in October. At the same time, output in the sector was revised down from an original estimate of 0.5 percent in September to 0.2 percent. As such, manufacturing production has been weaker over the past three months than desired. Capacity utilization among manufacturers has also edged lower over this time frame, down 77.8 percent in July to 77.2 percent in October.
