IndustryWeek Manufacturing production increased 0.1% in June, the Federal Reserve reported today, underperforming analyst expectations for an increase of 0.3% or more. Industrial production showed a similar modest improvement, up 0.2% for the month.
 
Shopfloor With more and more data starting to trickle in for June, we are seeing some definite trends taking shape. One positive is that the manufacturing sector continues to expand, suggesting that the rebound from winter-related softness earlier in the year has mostly continued. Manufacturers also tend to be mostly upbeat about the second half of this year—a sign of optimism that is encouraging.

CTV News Canada's manufacturing sector is finally poised for a true recovery after spending the last eight years in survival mode, according to a new report from consulting firm KPMG. In the report, KPMG says many of the headwinds that worked against the sector during and since the 2008-09 recession are poised to reverse. One of the most encouraging, KPMG says, is that far fewer Canadian firms are pre-occupied with cost-saving and outsourcing production to such places as China, and are more focused on growth.
 
Manufacturing. net U.S. factory output increased for the fifth straight month in June as manufacturers cranked out more aircraft, chemicals and furniture. The modest gain underscored manufacturing's role in helping return the economy to growth after a grim first quarter. Factory production rose 0.1 percent last month, the Federal Reserve said Wednesday, down from a gain of 0.4 percent in the previous month.

Los Angeles Times California manufacturers really can do more with less. The output of state factories has surged 73% during the last 15 years — twice as fast as the rest of the nation — even as the sector bleeds jobs, according to a new report from the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. Employment declined nearly 34% during the same period.

NDTV Profit Suzlon Energy, India's top wind-turbine supplier, is looking to set up a manufacturing plant in Brazil and make the nation a hub for exporting to Latin American countries, its chairman Tulsi Tanti said. The plant, expected to be open in 18 months, will have initial capacity of 400 megawatts a year.

The site, which will occupy spare space within GE’s recently-opened 300,000-square foot high pressure turbine blade manufacturing facility in Auburn, will make complex fuel nozzles for the CFM Leap using a series of 3-D printing machines.

Airline Fleet Management Rolls Royce says it "honoured" to have been selected as the exclusive supplier to power the new A330-800neo and A330-900neo - but it was not an easy race to win. The engine manufacturer’s new Trent 7000 engine was revealed earlier this week at the Farnborough Air Show as the engine choice of Airbus, when it launched the new aircraft.
 
Manufacturing.net General Motors has proposed investing $27 million at a southern Indiana casting plant for machinery, equipment and tooling needed to produce aluminum engine blocks. The automaker filed a tax abatement request for the Bedford factory project, saying it would add about 40 jobs and raise the plant's employment to some 650 workers.
 
WCSI Cummins announced the development of a new engine and powertrain that it says drastically cuts carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Monday's announcement stated that CO2 emissions can be cut by as much as 80 percent compared with a baseline gasoline-powered medium-duty truck.
