Philadelphia Inquirer One in three manufacturers surveyed by the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia said they have experienced significant labor shortages, with some positions remaining unfilled for more than three months. A key problem is a mismatch of skills, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia reported in its closely watched monthly manufacturing survey.
LaCrosse Tribune The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development will award grants totaling $1.5 million to help 37 employers in 15 counties train about 2,200 manufacturing workers for new jobs or better pay. In Dane County, Stoughton Trailers will receive a grant of $238,471 and Midwest Prototyping will get $32,064 to train and hire or promote workers, according to a news release from the state department.
USA Today Manufacturers across the United States are targeting schools and colleges to let young people know there is more to manufacturing than pulling levers on an assembly line. The goal is to get people to see manufacturing jobs as the high-tech, high-skilled and high-paying careers they can be in the second decade of the 21st century.

Cincinnati Business Courier The Irving, Texas-based Celanese Corp. is building a $20 million manufacturing and technology innovation hub in Florence, Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear announced Thursday. Celanese Corp. is a Fortune 500 global technology and specialty materials manufacturer with an existing research and development facility and 350 employees in Florence. The new 25,000-square-foot manufacturing hub will create 10 new jobs.

Travel Biz Monitor Aircraft engine-manufacturer, Rolls-Royce has dispatched the first production Trent XWB that will power the Airbus A350 XWB’s entry into commercial service with Qatar Airways later this year. The aero engine, which is specifically designed for the A350 XWB, is the fastest-selling civil large-engine ever, with more than 1,600 already sold to 40 customers, a release states.
