International Business Times Since February 2010, the U.S. manufacturing industry, which appeared to be in a terminal decline for more than 30 years, has added more than 554,000 jobs to the workforce, according to the Joint Economic Committee of the U.S. Congress. However, in that same time frame, men have gained 565,000 jobs in the sector and women lost 11,000 jobs, lowering female representation in the sector to 27 percent, the lowest it's been since 1971.
 
Industry Week A rising tide of positive factors bodes well for a rebound in the manufacturing sector, according to the quarterly Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation U.S. Industrial Outlook. Manufacturing industrial production increased at a 1% annual rate during the third quarter of 2013, but production has rapidly accelerated in the fourth quarter.

Spartanburg Herald Journal Beginning in February, the Corporate & Community Education Division will offer the program, South Carolina Manufacturing Certification. It is a five-week course and funded through the state. The certification is an entry-level program for advance manufacturing certification. The course requires 200 hours of training in three programs, plus 40 hours of hands-on laboratory training.

The Business Journal Production of the engine that will power the $4.5 million HondaJet small business aircraft is expected to begin in Burlington during the second half of 2014, GE Honda Aero Engines officials said Thursday.
 
Industry Week Daimler said on Thursday it will partner with Aston Martin to build new engines for the British luxury brand's next generation of models. "The technical partnership will allow Mercedes-AMG (a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler) and Aston Martin to develop bespoke V8 engines supporting Aston Martin's launch of a next generation of models," the two car makers said.
 
Electric Light & Power A total of 38 General Electric (GE) 1.6 MW wind turbines will power the Kinangop Wind Farm in Kenya, which is being developed by Aeolus Kenya and constructed by Iberdrola Engineering. Following the wind power project's commissioning, the 61 MW wind farm will generate enough renewable electricity to power the equivalent of 150,000 homes in the country.
 
Aerospace Manufacturing and Design Chromalloy has entered into three significant new long-term parts and service agreements with aircraft engine producer Pratt & Whitney, for manufacturing and supply chain activities on the new PurePower PW1100G-JM engine, and to provide aftermarket support on legacy engines.
