Unmanned helicopter and professional drone developer Flying-Cam has unveiled its newest unmanned aircraft system, the Discovery. To complete the construction of the drone, the firm turned to 3D printing materials and services provider CRP Technology to manufacture the drone’s tail rotor gear box housing, which is the main housing attached to the main tail boom.

Electrified propulsion engineering consultancy, Drive System Design (DSD), has developed a power-dense Electric Drive Unit (EDU) design for a global Tier 1 supplier. The powertrain will be used in a range of medium to heavy-duty commercial vehicle applications, such as city buses and delivery vans, when it reaches the market in 2024.

At IAA Transportation 2022 in Hanover, Germany, ZF’s new Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division will showcase how its latest automated, connected and eMobility solutions are setting new industry benchmarks in safety, efficiency and sustainability. ZF has revealed that its industry-leading technologies have generated a series of significant business wins for its new CVS division since its 1 January launch. Presenting its advanced ProAI commercial vehicle supercomputer at IAA, ZF will also showcase its new CeTrax 2 electric central drive, next-generation mBSP ‘XBS’ braking platform and pioneering SCALAR fleet orchestration solution.

The winners in the 2022 Powder Metallurgy Design Excellence Awards competition, sponsored by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF), were announced during the International Conference on Powder Metallurgy and Particulate Materials (PowderMet2022), held in Portland, Oregon, USA, from June 12–15, 2022.

BMT Aerospace, Oostkamp, Belgium, has chosen DNV for Facility Certification and Part Production Specification (PPS) for Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (PBF-EB) process, according to the DNV service specification DNVGL-ST-0568. This follows on from BMT’s participation in the proGRAM JIP project, which produced guidelines for the use of Additive Manufacturing within the oil & gas and maritime industries. The project’s second phase added PBF-EB Additive Manufacturing to the standard.

Stellantis signalled its commitment to the historic carmaking city of Turin on Tuesday with an investment to boost its role in electric vehicle production and as a center for the recycling of cars and their parts. The automaker signed an agreement with Punch Powertrain to increase production of electrified dual-clutch transmissions (eDCT) for hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles within Mirafiori, Stellantis' main plant in Turin.

The new Allison eGen Power® 130S, the latest product to be introduced to the company’s eGen Power family of fully electric axles, was designed specifically to support the heavier 13-ton gross axle weight rating, which is often required by commercial vehicles in Europe and Asia Pacific markets. The 130S joins the eGen Power line-up of e-Axles, which includes the 100D, introduced in 2020, as well as the 130D and 100S introduced in 2021.

Stellantis officials say the manufacturing operation recently reached a significant milestone at their Tipton Transmission Plant (TTP). According to a media release, TTP just rolled out its 5-millionth nine-speed transmission, which is built at the Tipton County manufacturing plant and its sister plant, Indiana Transmission (ITP). The nine-speed transmission is shipped globally to plants in North America, the release added, as well as in Italy, Turkey, India and Brazil, and it’s used in various Chrysler, Fiat and Jeep automobiles.
