Daimler Truck Holding AG sees promising signs of moving past the prolonged chip shortage that has beset manufacturers globally, the head of the company’s Mercedes truck brand said. After months of factory outages due to the component shortfalls, the order backlog is keeping factories busy even as the global economy shows signs of sputtering.

3D Printing Industry
Multinational firm HP has announced that its revenue rose 3.9% in Q2 2022, thanks in part to the strong performance of its 3D printing division. While the firm’s printing segment continued to be impacted by supply issues and COVID-related office closures, this was partially offset by its industrial graphics and 3D portfolio, which delivered double-digit revenue growth over H1 2022.
Today’s Medical Developments
Vibrations during 3D printing either slow down the process or warp the parts, but new software could enable manufacturers to keep up the speed without sacrificing accuracy. The software essentially serves as a translator between the commands that would print the part in a perfect world, and how the machine needs to compensate for vibrations in the real world. It works for printers that mechanically move a printhead.
Supply Chain Brain
Vision, mobility and enhanced safety features make robotics ideal for labor automation, says Divya Prakash, director of business at SICK. Because labor availability is one of the key challenges for warehouse operators, a great deal more automation is entering the warehouse.

With the ever-increasing cost of gasoline and growing desire to help the environment, it is no wonder that the move to electric vehicles is gaining tremendous momentum. Auto makers are actively pushing to roll out their all-electric offerings even sooner than the initial target date of 2040. To support the push to electrify, the supply chain supporting these vehicles is seeing huge investments, particularly in the manufacturing of drivetrain components.
Gear Technology
According to the German DIN 8589 standards, the definition of grinding is “a machining process with geometrically undefined cutting edges.” That definition, while true in principle, would be false in practice if it were to suggest that grinding is an imprecise process.

The humble wire harness, a cheap component that bundles cables together, has become an unlikely scourge of the auto industry. Some predict it could hasten the downfall of combustion cars. Supplies of the auto part were choked by the war in Ukraine, which is home to a significant chunk of the world’s production, with wire harnesses made there fitted in hundreds of thousands of new vehicles every year.

3D Metalforge reports that it has successfully tested additively manufactured parts on-board the Conco Phillips Polar Tanker’s Endeavour oil tanker. The testing was undertaken as part of a multi-national project led by the American Bureau of Shipping, ConcoPhillips Polar Tankers, Sembcorp Marine Ltd. and Metalforge.

3D Printing Industry
A team of international researchers is taking a deeper dive into the fundamental physics behind metal 3D printing, all in the hopes of better understanding defects in printed parts.  These defects are detrimental to the density of a part and lead to overall poor mechanical properties in a structure.
