e-Drive gears differentiate from other gears in two essential ways: higher quality and the need for an excellent noise behavior. This webinar will showcase a totally new approach of gear inspection using Gleason’s newly developed GRSL (Gear Rolling System with Integrated Laser Technology). Due to the very high measuring speed and the high amount of measurement data, it is now possible for the first time to carry out up to 100% in process inspection, including a noise analysis and thus eliminating the traditional statistical process control. In addition, the system can easily be integrated into a cell, the Hard Finishing Cell.

Explore gear failure analysis in this hands-on seminar where students not only see slides of failed gears but can hold and examine those same field samples close up, with use of a microscope to examine field samples.

Engineers at DOE’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) have developed a battery that is well-suited for supporting the electric grid by storing energy for months without losing much to self-discharge.
The battery technology seems ideal for seasonal storage in which energy generated in one season is then used in another.

In part because e-commerce now helps manufacturers bypass traditional channels to reach consumers, more are adding direct-to-consumer (DTC) sales to their distribution plans. In addition to e-commerce, DTC can come in the form of outlet or factory stores, pop-ups or through a brand’s marquee stores.

The Biden administration has released the lease terms for offshore wind projects that would place hundreds of turbines in California's coastal waters — the first such project off the nation's Pacific coast.
The two projects along the state's northern and central coasts are envisioned to generate up to 4.5 gigawatts of wind energy.

Elon Musk wants to mine it, China is scouring Tibet for it, battery makers are crying out for it. Lithium, the wonder metal at the heart of the global shift to electric cars, is in a full-blown crisis. Demand has outstripped supply, pushing prices up almost 500% in a year and hindering the world’s most successful effort yet to halt global warming.

According to the German DIN 8589 standards, the definition of grinding is “a machining process with geometrically undefined cutting edges.” That definition, while true in principle, would be false in practice if it were to suggest that grinding is an imprecise process.

There’s a complacency some machine operators can contract over time, when presented with a new product or machine tool workaround. These  advancements don’t necessarily frighten, it’s more a case that when an operation works well it’s advantageous to leave well enough alone. While many engineers prefer to keep things simple, safe and risk-free, occasionally a new technology offers a unique opportunity to increase productivity.

There are numerous metal cutting technologies available to OEMs, including  everything from oxyfuel cutting and plasma cutting, all the way through to laser cutting, punching, stamping and EDM.  Some of the “less common” metal processing technologies suffer from an inability to process a significant number of materials, or they do not provide the accuracy and precision that is increasingly demanded.
Power Transmission Engineering
The latest trends and emerging technologies in areas like robotics, automation, mechatronics and motion control will be on-hand at Automate 2022 in Detroit. PTE provides a preview of some of the products that will be available on the show floor in June.
Protocol
A major change is coming, one that will be felt from the factory floor to the boardroom. Along with the shift from global outsourcing models to regionalized supply chains, the next milestone for manufacturers is the adoption of intelligent automation solutions that enable greater flexibility, resiliency and higher ROI.
