Join our IHS Markit economists as they take us through the latest industry numbers and discuss important trend lines. This will be a significant presentation as we examine where manufacturing is rebounding. The economists will walk AGMA members through the macro and industry outlook. We have asked our experts to also spend some time on the materials handling sector as that sector expanded as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. And we want to make sure that members understand the numbers in this important end-user market space.
With the support of a unique and powerful consortium of technology companies, the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) investigated the state of Industry X in automotive. They have recently released the report State of Industry X in Automotive. Brett Smith, Director of Technology at CAR, and the lead author of the paper, will join us to provide an in-depth information session on what they discovered. This is relevant to not only those in auto but anyone who wants to learn more about how technology is being used to transform industries.

A good understanding of individual failure modes and the failure scenarios that led to the actual system failure is an essential skill to designing gear/bearing systems that will operate properly for their full design life. In this course, we will define and explain the nature of many gear and bearing failures and we will also discuss and describe various actual failure scenarios. In addition, a detailed primer on bearing technology prefaces the failure scenario discussions. You will gain a better understanding of various types of gears and bearings. Learn about the limitation and capabilities of rolling element bearings and the gears that they support. Grasp an understanding of how to properly apply the best gear-bearing combination to any gearbox from simple to complex.
Designed for engineers and scientists in the rolling element bearing and bower transmission industries who desire a more fundamental knowledge of the lubrication, friction and wear sciences.

Consider: It takes one to four weeks for a supplier to process a PO from a customer. That is the same amount of time it typically takes to ship goods from China to the U.S. Our global data handling is so poor that data which should move at the speed of light instead looks like a container ship crossing the largest ocean on the planet. Poor data handling is restricting the flexibility of our supply chains.

Fretting is a type of wear that occurs in the presence of a small movement between machine components. The small movement could be observed in parts that are not intended to move, and also parts where limited movement is allowed by design. Bolted joints, hollow-bore-shaft mating area, keyways, turbine blade roots, bearing races, shrink fitted and press fitted parts are examples of where unintended movement occurs. And flexible coupling, splines, cams, leaf springs are components that are allowed to have limited internal movement.

Ocean Wind, a joint venture between Ørsted and PSEG, the developers of New Jersey’s first offshore wind project, and steel pipe manufacturer EEW, are one step closer to opening New Jersey’s first offshore wind manufacturing facility, breaking ground on the EEW monopile manufacturing facility at the Port of Paulsboro Marine Terminal in Gloucester County. The start of construction marks a significant milestone in delivering the largest industrial offshore wind manufacturing facility in the U.S. to date.

Gear Technology
The AGMA Technical Division recently announced the following publications: ANSI/AGMA 6000-C20, Specification for Measurement of Linear Vibration on Gear Units. (Replaces ANSI/AGMA 6000-96) This standard presents a method for the measurement of linear vibrations on a gear unit. Instrumentation, measuring methods, test procedures and discrete frequency vibration limits are recommended for acceptance testing to confirm integrity. An annex which lists system effects on gear unit vibration and responsibility is also provided.
