Until now, the task of enabling communication among all the technology in a plant has fallen largely to systems integrators who create the computer-code translators, or bridges, from, say, a 3D camera to a robot or between two robots made by different vendors. It’s a process that takes a long time and costs a lot of money. Small business owners are retiring in greater numbers as Baby Boomers age. We wish them a happy retirement, but small and medium businesses use other small businesses for vital goods and services. Many companies have made succession plans for their owners and top managers, but what about critical non-employees? For example, a manufacturer may use independent sales representatives. A timber company may use contract loggers. A health clinic may outsource its human resources function to a small, local firm. Reverse engineering a gear system is not a too unusual task and in many, but not all cases the process goes fairly well, thus it is easy to become complacent. It is important, however, to fully understand the process and the best practice procedure for reverse engineering a gear system. Failure to fully follow best practice can result, at best, in an unhappy gear user, but in the worst case it can lead to very expensive, time consuming and reputation damaging litigation. This AGMA course is scheduled for January 28, 2021 from 12:00-4:00pm.
