How long have you been in the home building industry?

35 years

What has been the biggest accomplishment of your career?

I would be remiss if I did not share how God’s grace and mercy saw us through the great recession and even more. No matter how difficult the times were for my family, His peace, which always surpasses all understanding, prevailed as it continues today. Saying that, what a privilege and a blessing it was to have worked with my mom, dad, and brothers for so many years, and what a treat it is today building homes with my wife, Marsha, and son, Charlie.

Some facts you may not know about Steve Cash:

  • Prior to becoming a home builder, Steve worked as a police officer and was given the "Young Peace Officer of the Year" award for metro Atlanta in the early 80s after being involved in a hostage negotiation.
  • Steve served as a member of the State Legislature in the 90s and was named "Freshman Legislator of the Year" by Georgia Trend magazine.
  • When the Contractor Licensing law rolled out, Steve was appointed by then Governor Sonny Perdue to the State Contractors’ Licensing Board for several years where he served with many builders who he says are still life-long friends.

Government Affairs

Forsyth: The Forsyth County Commission recently banned “vinyl exterior materials of any kind” from residential construction. GAHBA members and staff have worked with the Forsyth County Commission and the County Planning Department on this matter. The Commission will be placing a moratorium on enforcement of the ban at their next meeting on September 11. Additionally, the Planning Department has advised staff that the ban is limited to only vinyl siding, vinyl soffits, and vinyl porch columns. The GAHBA will continue to monitor this matter as it progresses.

Cherokee: Cherokee County has told some GAHBA members that they are required by the National Electric Code (NEC) to install a circuit and outlet in every dwelling unit for electric vehicle charging. The GAHBA has worked with the Home Builders Association of Georgia (HBAG) and Jeff Sargent, Regional Electrical Code Specialist at the National Fire Protection Association, to clarify this matter. If no charging station is installed in the home, then there is no mandate from the NEC to install a circuit or outlet in every dwelling unit. This information has been sent to the Building Inspection Department as well.
