The Professional Women in Building Council hosted "Yoga in the Park: Planking the Difference" Saturday morning at Piedmont Park. The event helped raise money for the PWB Scholarship Fund, which benefits college students in building industry fields. Thank you to everyone who came out to have fun and support this wonderful cause! 

   

The Metro South Chapter hosted a lunch meeting last week, which included a presentation on OSHA by Mitchell Smith of Pike Consulting Group and a 50/50 raffle benefiting HomeAid Atlanta. Pictured at right, from the left, are Mitchell Smith, HBA staff members Ruth Ann Bailey and Stephen Davis, Clayton County Commissioner Felicia Franklin Warner, and HomeAid Executive Director Mandy Crater. The event will be held Friday, June 15, at the HBA office. There are only 15 sponsorships available – these will go fast! There will be no more that two “like” companies allowed. Slots will not be held by calling – you must complete the form and send in along with payment. There will be 14-15 builders/purchasing managers participating.

Government Affairs
 

Last week the HBA participated in NAHB's Bringing Housing Home program, which provides an opportunity for HBA members and staff to conduct in-district meetings with their representatives. Meetings were held with Congresswoman Karen Handel, Congressman David Scott, and Congressman Rob Woodall. These meetings are key to strengthening relationships with lawmakers and keeping housing issues a priority in Congress.

Gwinnett County: The Gwinnett County Planning Department is now processing requests for painted brick as a modification process. To apply, complete the modification form and submit to the Development Plan Review Section of the Planning Department. The application fee is $100. This is temporary, and the HBA is working with the county to find a good permanent solution.

More than 60 area drop-off locations are awaiting your donations of new, unopened packages of diapers, baby wipes, baby food, and baby formula as part of HomeAid’s Essentials Drive! Today, May 8, is the last day to donate. The Essentials Drive, held annually since 2002, is held in honor of Mother’s Day, helping homeless mothers and their babies obtain "essential” baby supplies.

HomeAid needs lots of boxes before May 10 when HomeAid volunteers will gather to sort and pack Essentials Drive items for delivery. Drop your boxes off at the Greater Atlanta HBA office any time between 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on weekdays before May 10. 

 
  

On Friday, April 20, HomeAid Atlanta partnered with the Mortgage Bankers Association of Georgia’s (MBAG) Atlanta Chapter for a HomeAid Care Day at Direction House, a transitional housing program for male veterans working to overcome addiction issues. Vince Longo, right, of Vincent Longo Custom Builders and James MacDowell of Unique Homes and Renovations volunteered and provided leadership throughout the day.
