Corbett Lunsford of The Building Performance Workshop led a class last week on "Performance Testing: Using Diagnostics to Defend Against Callbacks, Claims, and Lawsuits." This is just one of many classes being offered through the HBA in the next two months to help builders earn their credit hours before the license renewal deadline on June 30.

Government Affairs

Meeting with Congressman Rob Woodall (R-GA): The HBA has coordinated a meeting with US Congressman Rob Woodall as part of the NAHB’s Bringing Housing Home program. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, at 1:30 p.m. in Lawrenceville. If you are interested in attending, please contact Stephen Davis.

 

Forsyth County: Forsyth County is currently seeking feedback on residential design standards via an online survey. Design standards under consideration include exterior materials, windows, building scale and disposition on the lot, landscaping, open space, lighting, and accessory structures. The survey will be available through Wednesday, May 2. ALL HBA members are encouraged to take this survey and share with contacts who have interests in Forsyth County. HBA members and staff have met and will continue to meet with County officials on this matter.

Gwinnett County: The Gwinnett County Planning Department is now processing requests for painted brick as a modification process. To apply, complete the modification form and submit to the Development Plan Review Section of the Planning Department. The application fee is $100. This is temporary, and the HBA is working with the County to find a good permanent solution.

More than 60 area drop-off locations are awaiting your donations of new, unopened packages of diapers, baby wipes, baby food, and baby formula as part of HomeAid’s Essentials Drive! The Essentials Drive, held annually since 2002, is held in honor of Mother’s Day, helping homeless mothers and their babies obtain "essential” baby supplies.

Got any copy-paper size boxes you don't need? 

HomeAid needs lots of boxes before May 10 when HomeAid volunteers will gather to sort and pack Essentials Drive items for delivery. Drop your boxes off at the Greater Atlanta HBA office any time between 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. on weekdays before May 10. 

 

Sign up now to volunteer at Essentials Drive Sorting Day! Volunteers will help sort, count, and pack thousands of donated baby items (diapers, wipes, baby food, etc.) collected during the 2018 Essentials Drive. This is a very important job! The baby supplies will be delivered, with the help of UPS, to 20 local organizations serving homeless families the following day.
