The Greater Atlanta HBA office has been experiencing a power outage since Friday afternoon. Crews have been working to restore power, but are estimating that we may be in the dark until Wednesday, possibly longer. Our office systems and phones are down, but HBA staff members are working from home and can still be reached via e-mail. (Click here for a list of staff e-mail addresses.)

Last week the HBA's Young Professionals Group hosted a "Night at the Plate" at SunTrust Park. Attendees at this sold-out event enjoyed networking, food, drinks, and a backstage tour of the stadium. The Greater Atlanta HBA's Parade of Homes will take place during the weekends of April 20-22, April 27-29, and May 4-6 throughout Metro Atlanta area. The Parade brings together many of Atlanta’s best builders to offer an interactive tour of spec, custom, and model homes.

New this year, the Parade will feature a mobile app and website (accessible 24/7), which increases your exposure to consumers that may be interested in buying a home or have building, remodeling, or landscaping needs. The Parade of Homes app will be free to download from the Apple Store or Google Play and will include several features for ease-of-use and return users.

Government Affairs

Forsyth County: The County Commission is set to vote on new District 4 Residential Architectural Conditions in April. A public hearing and vote will be held:

• Thursday, April 5, 5:00 p.m., Commissioners’ Meeting Room (110 East Main Street, Suite 220, Cumming, Georgia 30040)

Also, Forsyth County is currently seeking input on Residential Design Standards. The county will host a public listening session:

• Wednesday, March 28, 6:00-8:00 p.m., Fowler Park Recreation Center community room (4110 Carolene Way, Cumming, GA 30040)

Gwinnett County: Painted and face coated brick is banned in Gwinnett County. HBA members and staff are working with county officials to address this. If you would like to work with the HBA on this issue please contact Stephen Davis, or you may contact the County Commission directly to express your concerns.

On March 23, HomeAid Atlanta hosted its first Care Day of 2018 at Solomon's Temple in southwest Atlanta. Solomon's Temple provides transitional housing for homeless women with children. HomeAid volunteers from Engel & Volkers Buckhead Atlanta, the Kennesaw State University NAHB Student Chapter, and Georgia Gwinnett College completed several much-needed landscaping tasks. HomeAid thanks all volunteers for their hard work. Special thanks to Ross Davies of Super-Sod for assistance with planning this Care Day.

HomeAid Atlanta’s 17th Annual Essentials Drive will be held from April 30 to May 8 in honor of Mother's Day. The Essentials Drive is an Atlanta-wide drive to collect "essentials," such as diapers, baby wipes, baby food, and formula for homeless infants and toddlers. Your office, community organization, or social group can help homeless babies by holding an Essentials Drive or donating to the drive!
