Builder Licensing Prep Course: Commercial Supplement with Daniel Jewitt

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

Georgia state law requires home builders to be licensed and regulated by the State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors effective July 1, 2008. Eligibility for licensure will be determined by the board for all candidates who have successfully applied for and passed their licensing examination.

The Greater Atlanta HBA is offering a two-day class to prepare builders for the Residential-Light Commercial Contractor exam. (The 90-question exam is a supplement to the Residential Basic Exam. This should be taken ALONG WITH the Residential Basic Exam prep classes for a comprehensive overview of all the material. Those residential topics are NOT covered in this class. The HBA offers classes to prepare for those parts of the exam, also.)

This workshop covers:

  • Codes (International Building Code and Accessibility Code)
  • Specifics (Gypsum, Metal Deck, Metal Girder)

The exam is an open book test and this section uses the following reference materials:

  • International Building Code, 2006 with ’07 amendments
  • Georgia Accessibility Code, 1997
  • Handling and Erection of Steel Joists and Joist Girders, 2006
  • SDI Manual of Construction with Steel Deck, 2006
  • Gypsum Construction Handbook, 1987

Each participant must have the reference materials for the course. (Books may be purchased before the date of class in the HBA Bookstore.) The other exam sections use different reference materials. Please visit our web site at www.atlantahomebuilders.com to see information on other prep courses offered by the HBA for the Basic Contractor exam.

Cost: $250 Greater Atlanta HBA Member, $300 Other HBA Member, $500 Non-member
